Hi -i’m Based In The Uk And Want To Check Whether The Glass In My Conservatory Is Safe. How Can I Tell?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

The conservatory was apparently built within the last 10 years but the company has since gone out of business and we’ve had some problems with the sub-standard workmanship and aftercare. I’m worried that the glass might also be sub standard – one pane is definitely different from the others as it is, and water ‘blurs’ down it rather than standing out in drops when it rains. No markings/letters are visible.

Conservatory Door Question?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I got a conservatory built last year. It gets very hot inside and I like to leave the door open. Problem is, the door opens out and blows about in the wind and I’m worried about damaging the hinges. As the doors dont open back fully I can’t prop them open against the wall. Do you know of any device that will keep them in the open position? I know this question doesnt make much sense but sorry, I cant find a better way to word it!!

In The Uk, Would I Get Planning Permission To Build A Conservatory Over A Small Sewer (serving 2 Houses)?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I don’t mean over the access hatch, just over where the sewer pipe runs (1-1.5m below ground level).

Can You Build A Conservatory At The Back Of Your House Without Planning Or Next Door Neighbours Permission ?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Yes, you are allowed something like 10% floor space extension without permission, however its best to apply for planning permission anyway, as tearing it all down wouldnt be good.

Would An Extension Or Conservatory Be Cheaper To Build?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I would like either an extension or a conservatory, it would only be small, about 3 metres x 2 metres and would only need building up on the front and to one side as it will fit into a corner created by two existing buildings i am on a budget so which option would be cheaper and a ball parl price would be nice

How Good Are Instabuild Conservatory Bases?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I’m thinking of getting an instabuild conservatory base to save the hassle of building a traditional base. I wanted to know if anyone else had experiences with these types of bases. How realistic are the bricks and are they really that simple to build, durability and so on?

we would like to buy a cottage which is semi detached and overlooking farmland, however the living room is very small, but they do have a conservatory (part brick built) attached to one of the outside walls leading to the garden, I realise we would have to put up an rsj, but would we need planning permission to do the work?…thanks
