How To Build A Self Build Conservatory?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Wickes (UK) do or used to do a self build conservatory. I think you need a fair amount of DIY experience to tackle this project. They do come with full instructions of course, but even so, not for the average amateur!

In Uk, Have You Had A Conservatory Built? Do You Recommend It?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

If exposed to afternoon sun, they become too hot on summer days, and are cold in winter. I had one, but replaced it with a brick-built extension; 20 years on, I am happy that I did.

Build Anglian Or Cr Smith Conservatory?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Has anyone ever had any good or bad experiences with Anglian or CR Smith when it comes to building a conservatory? We are considering both and have our own thoughts but would like opinions on the sales and service, finished product and after sales service, and guarantee.
Thanks in advance.

Do I Need Planning Permission To Demolish My Conservatory?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I have applied for permitted development approval to build a brick sun lounge, in the place of an existing conservatory.
The new sun lounge meets all of the criteria set out in the act as a Class A permitted development, however the Local Authority are insisting that planning permission is sought.
Their basis for this is an interpretation that I am replacing / rebuilding an existing building and the application then falls outside of the permitted developmet regulations.
Can anyone advise me if this is correct?

Do I Need Planning Permissino To Build A Conservatory On My Terrace House?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

For a normal sized conservatory you do not need planning permission. It is wise, although not legally required, to seek some sort of precedence order from the town hall. The reason for this is when you sell the property any solicitor acting for the buyers will look into any added structures to the building and their legalities etc.

Our Neighbour Has Built A Single Storey Conservatory With Windows That Look Into Our Kitchen Window?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

We have a large kitchen diner with 2 windows, one of which looks directly into our neighbours kitchen (left side of the room) (so the blind is always closed), then one on the right side that looks into the garden. The neighbour on the right has just built a conservatory with normal windows all the way round.
Because the conservatory has been built about 3 or 4 foot from the 3foot fence (which belongs to the neighbour and has been erected in our land, not where it should have been), her windows look directly into our kitchen, into the only window that we could open the blinds on. The woman next door owns her house, we rent ours from the council and she hates us for it. She has told me that we are council scum because we don’t own our house, so we can’t speak to her about anything. She’s really nosey and is always looking in now.
Is there not a law about invasion of privacy? The council are not helpful, as usual, so I need to give them the facts! Trouble is, I don’t know them yet!
